Welcome to the P1/2/3 class page

We are delighted to start our learning together as P1/2/3.
We  met each other before term started by using regular meetings in June and then Mrs Adams met the other new children outside before the term started.

Mrs Adams is helped by Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Lawson, Mr Davidson, Ms Watt and Mrs Cameron.
Since January, we have been joined by Miss McDougall and P1-4 from Eddleston.

We aim to give the children a healthy diet of play based learning, outdoor experience and an understanding of being part of the Newlands team.

We will share our learning on this site and please scroll down to see how our learning has developed as the terms progress.

With this in mind, our focus has been on our school and our community.
We have enjoyed creating collage members of staff, using the poly tunnel to create produce to share with people who help us and listened to talks from Neil in the Newlands Centre.
Our home corner this term has been the school office and we have enjoyed being Mrs Weir.
Some pictures of this terms learning;
Here we are going active maths games and then using 100 sdquare to show a strategy for adding 2 digit numbers,
Our topic this term has been Our School and the Community.
We worked together to create members of staff and important people in our community.

October to December term
We are all delighted to be back after the October break and have had a busy first week.
Our new topic is enterprise and this week we have been preparing things for our #Wearitpink sale  to support breast cancer awareness.
We iced pink cakes, sourced pink chocolate and got things from home that were pink and thought people may buy.
Lots of parents and staff also helped.

We had great fun and raised an amazing £205!

We also started walking to the woods and will be using our class story The Owl who Was Afraid of the Dark to help with building pretend bonfires. fireworks and dens.

We also have a nature table of collected items to help us play.

We have been enjoying our new ipads and have used them to improve maths skills, language skills and drawing.
As we focussed on Why we wear a poopy? we used the ipads to create poppy pictures, created our own poppies and made poppy silhoutte pictures.

P1 also made smoothies with Mrs Mitchell with the free fruit we were sent from Sainsbury.
Alfie wrote a letter asking for fruit to help with our new enterprise company- Newlands Nibbles.
It weas too easy to start the chutney so we have had the fruit as a healthy snack option.
We are now really getting on with our Christmas Enterprise.

We have worked out the cost of buying the ingredients and what prices we need to charge to make a profit.

This week we made the Christmas cakes, next week (2nd December) is the chutney, the week after is cake icing and finally biscuits.

Order forms will be sent out next week so our team of packers will be ready to make them look great.
We are loving using our ipads to try some inspire learning activities. So far we have made baubles and snowmen.
We are now at the stage of having cakes ready and chutney ready.

Only biscuits to go. Order forms out next week,

January to February 2022
The term has flow by and we have loved sequencing stories in school and at the woods, playing with our new pals at Eddleston, learning Scots poems and starting our Roman topic by making mosaics and houses

  February to April

This term we will use our buddies to create Roman army equipment and with our Eddleston friends enjoy World Book Day and explore instructional writing. We will be making masks to celebrate mardi gras too.
Another fun week finishing Roman shields, playing with buddies and helping support good causes.

This week we had The Talent Show for comic relief.

Lots of children auditioned- singing, dancing and doing magic tricks.

Two children made the final from our class with Oliver winning with his amazing puppet show.

After Easter

Our final term together will be learning about Measures and Food Chains.

We have started the term with tree planting for the Queen's Jubilee.

More events will be happening during this final term to celebrate this very special event.

Since coming back after the May break we have enjoyed learning about animal classification using ipads and plastic animals.
As always we have been  using the outdoors for Maths and Art.
We have loved trying to use Andy Goldsworthy ideas and finding natural resources to make things.
Our topic this term is growing and we were lucky to have baby Darcy join our class and have Mum explain how she has grown. We linked this with how plants grow and tried to work out the key things that everyone /thing needs to grow,.
We have also been weighing and measuring. We went to the woods and made mud cakes in teams carefully measuring out our equipment.
We are making things for the Jubilee using art and maths.
We pieced together an image of the Queen then painted it.
We are also using Hama beads.
